MARCH 2018

Welcome aboard Stephen

We are delighted to announce the recent appointment of tourism and events expert Stephen McLean as our new Operations Manager.

Stephen’s background includes tourism, events, strategic marketing and communications and development in both the private and public sectors. Stephen spent four and a half years at VisitScotland, firstly as the Events Programme Manager for Homecoming Scotland 2014 within EventScotland before moving into the role of VisitScotland Events Industry Development Manager. More recently Stephen was Marketing and Communications Manager at Live Borders and a freelancer working with clients including the Melrose 7s and Borders Book Festival. As well as being a graduate of history from the University of Glasgow, Stephen has worked on a number of historical and heritage projects, making him a very strong fit for the position here at Mellerstain and its incredibly rich history.

Mellerstain enjoyed a record year in 2017, both the new partnership with local restaurant the Hoebridge who now operate the Café and the very successful Steve Messam open air sculpture exhibition, attracting new visitors from across the world to one of the best stately historic houses in Britain. With further exciting developments planned in the coming year, we intend to build on this growth for 2018 and are extremely pleased that Stephen will be heading up the team.

Stephen McLean said:

“Mellerstain is such a picturesque venue and the opportunity to work at such a fascinating and stunning stately home is very exciting. Our team is working incredibly hard to ensure the house and gardens look beautiful for the forthcoming season. There’s so much for visitors to come and see and I’m looking forward to welcoming them when we open, firstly for Easter and then from the beginning of May.”
