Borderlines, a Scottish Gallery Exhibition in 2009, with the "Lyrical Abstraction" sculptures by Hironori Katagiri and Kate Thomson, and paintings by many of Scotland's greatest modern artists, featured as a "partnership event" within the Homecoming Scotland programme, and was Mellerstain's most ambitious show to date. The artists include Elizabeth Blackadder, Douglas Davies, Stephanie Dees, George Devlin, William Gillies, The Earl Haig, William Johnstone, Alexandra Knubley, Frances MacDonald, Alison McGill, Perpetua Pope, Barbara Rae, Duncan Shanks and Sam Wade.
![]() St Cuthbert's Way, a Photographic Journey by David Taylor, offered a vivid celebration of the St. Cuthberts's Way Walking Trail, and the Summer Exhibition 2008, which followed, gathered twenty stars of the Scottish and wider art scene, Micky Blacklock, Tom Davidson, Delphine de Castellane, James Fullarton, Vivienne Haig, Rob Hain, Chris Hall, Helen Kemp, Anna King, Angela Lemaire, Moy MacKay, Lizzie McCorquodale, Miranda McCrae, Cleo Mussi, John Nelson, Rob Newton, Lucy Parsons, Mooie Scott, Anne Sears and Helen Tabor. ![]() The 2007 Scottish Gallery Exhibition at Mellerstain attracted glowing reviews, establishing Mellerstain "at a stroke as the major venue in the Borders for current painting and other arts" (Douglas Hall, former Keeper of the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art). Other notable events have included The Centenary Exhibition of The Embroiderers' Guild in Scotland, and Borders Artists of The Royal Scottish Academy, with George Donald, Jim Fairgrieve, Jake Harvey, John Mooney, Claire Banks, John Brown and John McNairn, "...a show that is surprisingly large, attractively hung, and part of an ongoing commitment to showing art in this beautiful setting" (Glasgow Herald 6th June 2006).
