Welcome to Mellerstain – One of Scotland’s Finest Stately Homes

Welcome to Mellerstain, one of Scotland’s finest stately homes, and family residence of the 13th Earl of Haddington.

Today Mellerstain is owned by The Mellerstain Trust, a Scottish registered charity (SC011009), established in 1987 to maintain the house and gardens, and to continue the development of amenities for public benefit,  both as an educational resource and for the enjoyment of visitors world wide.

Mellerstain reflected the new-found optimism and stability of an enlightened and prosperous Scotland in the 18th century. As a unique example of William and Robert Adam design, it presents a wonderfully complete picture of a stately home as it would have been 240 years ago. With stunning Robert Adam interiors, combined with acres of beautiful parkland, ornamental lake and award-winning gardens, it is a genuine ‘must-see’.

Whether you choose to visit us for the day, to holiday in our self-catering accommodation within the grounds, or to create your  own page of history with a private celebration, romantic wedding or corporate event, we look forward to meeting you, and thank you for your support in preserving Mellerstain for future generations.
